PETALING JAYA: The border security agency is to be dissolved, and its duties taken over by the police after the Dewan Rakyat unanimously approved the repeal of the Malaysian Border Security Agency Act.
The inspector-general of police would have command and control over border security assignments, deputy home minister Ismail Mohamed Said told the House when tabling the bill for debate, Bernama reported.
He said the change would have a positive impact on the effectiveness of operations in land border areas, and all planning will be carried out more efficiently and systematically.
Ismail said that 613 officers and personnel would be absorbed into the General Operations Force. - FMT
