DPM deal: Ask Taki meaning of agreement, Hamzah says

 

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin has told his PAS counterpart, Takiyuddin Hassan, to clarify a statement that the deal concerning the deputy prime minister post was not an agreement.

“Ask him what is the meaning of an agreement or a memorandum of agreement,” said Hamzah (above), who is also the Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general.

He then declined to comment further on the issue.

Yesterday, Takiyuddin acknowledged he drafted a deal concerning the deputy prime minister position but that it was labeled a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

He said the deal was drafted in his capacity as the de facto law minister at the time and not in his capacity as the PAS secretary-general.

He added that the appointment of a deputy prime minister still requires the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Muhyiddin, who recently revealed the existence of such a deal, had told PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to refer to Takiyuddin about the agreement. This is because Takiyuddin was the one who drafted it.

Hadi earlier said he believed there was no such agreement between PN and Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Apart from appointing a deputy prime minister, Muhyiddin also said the agreement included cabinet positions as well. - Mkini
