PUTRAJAYA: The latest report on the supply of cooking oil in 1kg packets, chicken and eggs in the market will be presented at the special task force on “jihad” against inflation meeting tomorrow, said economic affairs minister Mustapa Mohamed.
Mustapa, who is a member of the task force, said the report would be presented by the ministry of domestic trade and consumer affairs. He said it would be an important update as problems related to supplies had been raised by consumers.
“When we made our rounds, some shops did not have any supply of cooking oil in packets.
“Tomorrow we expect to receive an update on the situation, more importantly on the actions that have already been taken and if they have been effective in ensuring there is sufficient supply and that prices do not exceed the ceiling price,” he told the media after opening the first Richiamo Coffee kiosk here today.
The Cabinet meeting on June 29 agreed to form the special task force whose role was to gather all information from the various ministries, agencies and the public, to solve problems relating to inflation, especially in controlling price hikes more efficiently and effectively.
Chaired by communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa, the other members are finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz; minister of agriculture and food industries Ronald Kiandee; minister of domestic trade and consumer affairs Alexander Nanta Linggi; and chief secretary to the government Zuki Ali.
In its first meeting on June 30, among issues raised were the lack of supply of cooking oil in 1kg packets, and the problem of middlemen and cartels in determining the price of essential goods in the market. - FMT
