PETALING JAYA: Human resources minister M Saravanan is wrong to claim that there was no condition to scrap the Maid Online System (MOS) as part of the agreement between Malaysia and Indonesia on the intake of maids, said a source in the know.
“It’s in black and white. It is part of the annexe which is an integral part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU),” said the source, who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the subject.
According to a copy of the annexe sighted by FMT, the condition on the scrapping of the MOS for the intake of Indonesian maids falls under the “One Channel System” (OCS) subject.
It lists OCS as “the only mechanism for the placement of IDMW (Indonesian Domestic Migrant Worker) in Malaysia”.
It also states that there are “no other IDMW placement mechanisms except OCS, e.g. Sistem Maid Online, Journey Performed Visa and MyTravel Pass”.
Sistem Maid Online is the Malay name for MOS.
Earlier today, Saravanan told the Dewan Rakyat that there was no condition to scrap the MOS in the MoU.
Indonesia has imposed a freeze on the recruitment of Indonesian workers from Malaysia, citing Malaysia’s non-compliance with the MoU on the use of MOS.
Under the MOS, Indonesian workers may enter the country using a tourist visa before applying for a work permit. Jakarta wants this practice to end due to the risk of forced labour that Indonesian citizens face. - FMT
