Ketari assemblyperson Young Syefura Othman has alleged that a futsal competition she organised for her constituency was blocked from being held in a Felda area due to “pressure from above”.
She said the futsal competition was initially set to be held on July 31 at the Mempaga Felda Community Sports Complex but her team’s plans have now been disrupted due to issues with the venue they booked.
“(My officer) informed me that the Mempaga Felda side received pressure from above when they found out that this championship will be held at the Mempaga Felda community complex.
“I am disappointed and confused. I am not asking for sponsorship and my office is prepared to pay the full price to Mempaga Felda to rent the futsal courts for the programme.
“Why am I ‘not allowed’ to host the championship there?” questioned Syefura in a statement last night.
Unprofessional move
She further asked why an event organised for the youth in the constituency was being blocked and who was behind this incident.
The DAP lawmaker said she has always had a good relationship with the Mempaga Felda management and never had problems dealing with them.
This “pressure from above” is very unprofessional and reeks of “old-school dirty politics”, she added.
“I also demand an explanation from Nazri Ngah, who is the chairperson of the Pahang Felda, Cooperatives, Entrepreneurs and Consumer Affairs Committee - is it true that an opposition assemblyperson in Pahang was not allowed to rent facilities from and hold programmes in Felda?” Syefura said.
Malaysiakini has contacted Nazri for a response on this matter. - Mkini
