Putrajaya will be subsidising around 54 percent for every litre of RON95 petrol sold over the next week.
This was based on the actual price of RON95, which was RM4.52 per litre, according to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
"Malaysia holds RON95 petrol price at RM2.05 per litre (US$0.46) to curb inflation. Market price for RON95 is RM4.52 per litre," he tweeted this morning.
Putrajaya does not reveal the actual price of petrol in its price adjustment announcements every Wednesday.
The price of RON 95 has remained unchanged since Feb 27, 2021.
Malaysia has among the lowest fuel prices in the world. For comparison, a litre of RON 95 equivalents is sold at RM10.28 in Singapore, RM5.24 in Indonesia and RM5.47 in Thailand.
Crude oil prices rallied since the start of the year before being exacerbated by the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
However, the price of Brent crude has been on a four-day decline and trading at just below US$100 at the time of writing. - Mkini
