Umno's Ketereh MP Annuar Musa has dismissed his rumoured partnership with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in the next party polls.
When asked by reporters, Annuar denied any prior discussions of such a partnership between the duo.
“We never discussed this. I know that some people (are) spreading the lineup and things like that.
“I don’t have plenty of time to think of all those things, but we never discussed, we never sat down and discuss the lineup, contests.
“We have very limited time. There's so much to do, so much work to do, so it’s hard to say as even I don’t know (about this),” said Annuar today after the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) award-giving ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Annuar had previously contested for the Umno deputy president post in 2018.
The rumour had first emerged in a column ran by The Star yesterday, which alleged various election line-ups within Umno.
Yesterday, Ismail Sabri, who is also Umno vice-president, said the party was hoping to hear from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on the proposed amendments to its constitution by July 16.
The party had delayed its election for 18 months following the end of its 2018/2021 term.
The term ended on June 30, 2021 - therefore, the polls for the next 2021/2023 term must be held before Dec 30 later this year.
In March, however, the Umno general assembly came to a consensus to postpone the polls for up to six months following the incoming general election. This was to enable Umno to focus on the lead-up to the GE15.
Consensus at Umno AGM
Speaking on this, Annuar said it has been two months since the party came to a consensus during the Umno general assembly.
“(The ROS approval by July 16), I hope so because Umno has made the resolution pass during the general assembly meeting.
“It has been something like two months so we hope to get the decision in order for Umno to move forward,” said Annuar.
He stressed that the ROS must reply as it is based on the ROS Act and party constitution.
“What we have decided during the assembly will not come into force until and unless ROS gives the approval so they shouldn't keep quiet. They must give a reply,” he said.
When asked if the party was prepared to face leadership polls, Annuar quipped that Umno was always prepared for such battles.
However, he noted that the party's request was for the election to be carried out six months after GE15.
"That is our request but the authority lies with the ROS, so we should wait. Insyallah," he said. - Mkini
