PKR CONGRESS | PKR advisory council chairperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail could not hold back her tears during her speech this morning when she spoke of the party's internal conflict which involved "the enemy from within".
"Only God knows my love for the party. In a party election, there will be those who win and lose in any contest. That is normal.
"I am used to losing in life but that doesn't mean I am an enemy (of the victor)," she said during her address at the PKR women's wing congress in Shah Alam, Selangor today.
Wan Azizah was not specific about her grievances. However, observers told Malaysiakini that this was likely a reference to attempts to dispute the election results.
"We are not enemies. We are in the same party. If you want to leave, go ahead. Do not be an enemy from within.
"Don't destroy what we have built together," she said.
Wan Azizah said the election had tested relationships within the party and put a strain on the party's image.
"Now is the time to gather our strength and be consistent without struggle," said Wan Azizah.
She also advised party members to be inclusive and be prepared to work with rivals for the good of the party.
"We want party members to be open and magnanimous. They must be willing to have dialogue and negotiations," said Wan Azizah.
The last PKR leadership election in 2018 saw most top positions won by those loyal to Azmin Ali and Zuraida Kamaruddin.
This faction eventually fell out with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and left the party in 2020. - Mkini
