The Federal Territories Ministry has received a report about another individual who allegedly mocked and insulted the Malay race during a performance at a comedy club, as seen in an old viral video.
Deputy Federal Territories Minister Jalaluddin Alias said the individual is allegedly the owner of the Crackhouse Comedy Club, which was temporarily suspended by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
“I have asked the enforcement team to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter. If it violates the conditions of the licence issued, it is not impossible for DBKL to take stricter action that could lead to the closure of the club,” Jalaluddin said, as reported by Bernama.
The comedy club situated in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) was recently suspended by DBKL after a woman allegedly insulted Islam during an open-mic stand-up performance at the premises.
The suspension received brickbats from other comedians and the comedy club operator, who said Crackhouse was the one who lodged a police report against the woman’s performance and it has been cooperative with the authorities throughout the investigation.
Jalaluddin later said Crackhouse had been operating under a restaurant and liquor licence without the required entertainment licence. As such, he said DBKL will issue a show-cause letter to the club.
“The club owners applied for an entertainment licence but this was not approved because there are several conditions (to be met) such as a fire report and types of entertainment activities to be held. We cannot issue a blanket approval for each type of entertainment.
“The ministry will not compromise on the misuse of licences. The premises does not have an entertainment licence, so DBKL took action to temporarily suspend the operations of the premises and restaurant for abusing the licence given,” he added.
Jalaluddin said the owners of the comedy club have been given 14 days to submit an appeal to the DBKL licensing committee. - Mkini
