PETALING JAYA: Supply disruption and a high number of bookings has led to a waiting list of up to six months for Mercedes-Benz cars, a senior official of the company said.

The supply chain disruption caused by lockdowns in Shanghai, China, were the “biggest challenge”, said Michael Jopp, vice-president of sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

Jopp did not divulge details of its order book, but he predicted that vehicle sales this year will see a double-digit growth, according to The Edge.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia CEO Sagree Sardien, said sales growth would return to single-digit growth from next year because of rising inflation and in anticipation of higher interest rates.

On Thursday the Malaysian Automotive Association estimated 2023 total vehicle sales to be 636,300 new cars.

Sagree said there had been “relatively high” demand for its three electric vehicle (EV) models, the EQS 450+, the EQB 350 4MATIC and the EQC 400 4MATIC, which were launched today.

“We have already secured orders in the system for these specific vehicles without customers having the ability to see them physically.” - FMT
