PETALING JAYA: Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim hopes the Musang King durian plantation project in Gunung Inas, Kedah, will be cancelled due to claims that it is partly to blame for the floods in his constituency yesterday.
He said he and the residents in the surrounding area had previously submitted a memorandum to Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor objecting to the project.
“The memorandum was signed by 900 residents. This has been an ongoing issue for years, but the state government approved the project anyway,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
The floods have left three people dead.
I said in Parliament six months ago that Baling needed RM300 million to resolve its flood problem,” he said.
“I repeatedly appealed, and now, we have been hit with a disaster.”
In a press conference earlier, Sanusi said claims that the durian plantation project in Gunung Inas was the cause of the floods had not been proven.
He said a thorough investigation was required before levelling allegations at any party.
A total of 627 victims from 12 villages were reported to have been affected by the floods. - FMT
