Yes, there is proposal to tear down Shah Alam Stadium, says MB

Amirudin Shari said football officials had declared Shah Alam Stadium as unsafe because roof tiles tend to fly off in strong winds.

KUALA SELANGOR: Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said there is a proposal to tear down the Shah Alam Stadium and that he will provide more details on the stadium’s redevelopment plan on July 16.

“It’s one of the options (to demolish the stadium).

“It is premature to disclose now. It is not nice for me to elaborate on it because it involves discussions with a lot of parties,” Amirudin said after opening the “Selangor Penyayang” roadshow at Stadium Utama Kuala Selangor today.

He also said the Shah Alam Stadium was plagued with problems and repairs were needed to the roof, piping system and the field.

“The Football Association of Malaysia has given the stadium an unsafe status because roof tiles tend to fly off. We’ve discussed with FAM what to do. If we fix the roof, we will only be fixing that and the rest will continue to remain a problem. We don’t want it to be like that.”

Amirudin said the proposed development would take at least two years and was expected to be completed in line with the construction of the LRT3 railway line nearby.

“Of course, we do not want to be left behind in terms of technology. If we decide to proceed with the plan, we must make it perfect. This development proposal has been technically evaluated by a group of professionals,” he added. - FMT
