Cops: No notice given by Najib's supporters for palace gathering

Police were not given prior notice for the gathering of some 300 supporters of former premier Najib Abdul Razak outside Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Brickfields police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the group, which gathered to seek a royal pardon for Najib from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was spotted at around 2pm yesterday.

"When a police team was carrying out security and surveillance duties outside of Gate 3, Jalan Sultan Abdul Halim, KL, there was a memorandum submission gathering by NGO Pertubuhan Jalinan Perpaduan Negara Malaysia.

"It was estimated some 300 individuals dressed in black were gathered, chanting 'Hidup Najib dan Bossku!’.

"The police have found that the organiser did not submit any notice for the gathering," he said.

The Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 requires organisers to notify the nearest police headquarters at least five days prior to a planned public gathering, and the police must respond within three days with any conditions for the gathering.

The group of Najib's supporters also made several other demands related to the former premier’s case, including on outcome of any investigations against SRC trial judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.
