Covid-19 (Aug 18): 4,071 new cases, 7 deaths

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 4,071 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,749,000.

Active cases currently stood at 42,476, down 8.6 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (1,456)
Kuala Lumpur (728)
Negeri Sembilan (320)
Sabah (281)
Perak (275)
Sarawak (182)
Malacca (152)
Penang (143)
Johor (117)
Pahang (100)
Kedah (91)
Kelantan (77)
Putrajaya (74)
Terengganu (59)
Labuan (10)
Perlis (6)


Another seven deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

Deaths were reported in Selangor (3), Kedah (1), Perak (1), Penang (1) and Sarawak (1).

Over the past week, an average of 8.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 8.5, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,124 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 155 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 204 deaths last month and 89 deaths in June.

There are 1,542 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 81 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (143) followed by Johor (108) and Sabah (80). - Mkini
