A police report has been lodged against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang regarding his recent statement claiming that non-Muslims and non-bumiputera make up the bulk of the “root of corruption” in the country.
The report was lodged at 12.24pm today by Federal Territories DAP assistant secretary Lee Bing Hong (right), at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
Also present was Selangor DAP assistant secretary for publicity Eric Teh Hoong Keat.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Lee criticised the Marang MP for attempting to sow discord among multiracial Malaysians.
“His statement is very disappointing and must be condemned. It will only create hatred among various races,” he said.
On Aug 20, Hadi took to Facebook and blamed Malays for being apathetic to voting, resulting in non-Malays and “liberals” gaining control of the country’s political power in the last general election.
He also said that corruption stemmed from those who reaped profits through illegal means, alleging the majority of them were non-Muslims and non-bumiputera.
Hadi’s statement received brickbats from many quarters, including Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) which called for the authorities to take action against the former. - Mkini
