'Dark night, bright dawn' - Zahid rallies Umno after Najib imprisoned

Najib Abdul Razak’s spirit would not fade nor would his incarceration dampen Umno’s struggle, vowed Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“We believe the dawn will be bright if the night is dark. Time will decide,” said the Umno president in a Facebook post late last night.

Zahid described the Federal Court’s decision to uphold Najib’s conviction and sentence in the SRC International case as a “heart-wrenching moment” for Umno.

“Those of us who were inside and outside the court felt dejected, some shed tears… But this does not mean we have given up,” he stressed.

Hoping that Najib would find the strength to confront this test, Zahid also recalled the former premier’s remark that the might of the judicial machinery was pinned against him in the most unfair manner.

‘Genuine warrior’

On the same note, the Umno president said that Najib is a “genuine warrior” and would not relent in his struggle.

He also called on the former premier and Umno members to find solace in the Quranic verse that there is “no need to be crestfallen when Allah is with us.”

“Let us continue to be in solidarity. We will remain together in Najib’s good times and bad times.

“We will be rational and submit to the party’s wishes… There should be no treachery amongst us. We know who our friends and foes are,” he added.

Following the Federal Court’s decision, Najib was taken to the Kajang Prison to serve his 12-year prison sentence.

The former premier must also settle a fine of RM210 million, failing which, he would have to spend another five years behind bars. - Mkini
