KUALA LUMPUR: Representatives of delivery riders and Grab drivers are to meet the transport minister and the human resources minister to discuss their complaints, an aide to the prime minister said today.
Representatives of the two associations will meet transport minister Wee Ka Siong on Monday, said Khaizulnizam Mohamad Zuldin, political secretary to the prime minister, Bernama reported.
The meeting with the human resources minister will be arranged soon, he told reporters after meeting representatives of the Grab drivers association and the p-hailing delivery riders association at a restaurant in Jalan Ampang here.
Khaizulnizam said his meeting was at the instruction of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob who he said was very concerned about the problems faced by the riders and drivers.
Abdul Hakim Abdul Rani, deputy president of the delivery riders association, said the association was unhappy that the delivery charge had been reduced by the service providing company.
The Grab drivers association deputy president, Mohd Azril Ahmat, hoped government representatives would listen to their grouses before making any decision.
Earlier today, about 100 food delivery riders were reported to have submitted a memorandum to Grab headquarters in Petaling Jaya over complaints about low delivery fares which they say has forced them to work longer hours to earn the same amount.
A 24-hour strike called the “Food Delivery Blackout” started last night. This afternoon riders gathered at 10 rally points in the Klang Valley and rode together to submit the memorandum to Grab headquarters, Malaysiakini reported. - FMT
