Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) has clarified that its president-designate Zuraida Kamaruddin was misquoted when it was reported that the party would not contest in Sarawak in the 15th general election.
PBM president Larry Sng (above) stated that the party would be defending all of its incumbent seats.
Currently, PBM has only one seat in Sarawak, the Julau parliamentary seat, which is held by Sng.
"I think she was misquoted. I spoke to her and I listened to the (audio) recording. Actually, Zuraida did not say that we are not contesting. We are going to contest all incumbent seats," said the Julau MP.
Sng, who possessed an audio clip of Zuraida's recording, said the question was posted by the journalist and Zuraida's reply was quite inaudible as the recording was done far away.
He was referring to a report quoting Zuraida as saying that PBM will not be fielding candidates in Sarawak in the next polls.
"No, we (PBM) are not, (contesting in Sarawak) as there is no BN here," Zuraida was reported as saying after the relaunching of SaraSpice in Kuching earlier today.
The media had previously reported that for GE15, PBM planned to contest in 14 seats, comprising seven parliamentary and seven state seats.
On that note, Zuraida said PBM was still keen to join BN and the coalition was still assessing the application.
"The application has been received by BN and they are in the midst of reviewing it. So, at the moment, we are keeping pace with what is going on.
"We are looking at the best interest of the party while sticking to our plan (to join BN)," the Ampang MP added. - Mkini
