SERDANG: A convention might be broken when Budget 2023 is presented in Parliament this Oct 7, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob Ismail Sabri Yaakob expected to table it, claims Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In his winding up speech at the Perikatan Nasional Convention on Saturday (Aug 27), Muhyiddin said he was informed of this by a friend who is a Cabinet minister.
"Usually, the budget is presented by the finance minister but I was told that the prime minister wants to do it this time.
"Also, the budget is usually held at the end of October, but this time, it has been brought forward to Oct 7. Why do you think this is being done?" asked Muhyiddin, who is the Perikatan chairman.
He said Ismail Sabri might have a plan to dissolve Parliament soon to pave the way for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be called.
"I suspect that right after he tables the budget on Oct 7, he will call for Parliament to be dissolved the next day.
"This means there will be no debates on the budget," said Muhyiddin.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president, however, said the key takeaway from it all is that GE15 is expected to be held really soon.
"The general election is upon us and the most important thing is that we must be ready for it whenever it is called," said Muhyiddin. - Star
