In a highly unorthodox move, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has assigned two party leaders as heads of two state party chapters respectively.
Last night, Anwar assigned Rafizi Ramli (above, left) as the head of Johor PKR, just a few hours after announcing the latter was the new head of Federal Territories PKR.
Anwar (above, right) also announced last night he was retaining Aminuddin Harun as the head of Negeri Sembilan PKR.
In addition, Aminuddin will also be the head of Malacca PKR.
Normally, no PKR member will head more than one state chapter. Heads of the state chapters have the authority to choose the state’s party committee members.
Party members are unable to elect their state chapter head. However, the convention is for the party president to choose the head in consultation with elected PKR division heads.
The state chapter head is a significant position because it will have some influence on the choice of election candidates.
It also indicates the party's nominee for the position of the state’s chief executive (menteri besar or chief minister).
Currently, the PKR state chapter head for Selangor and Negeri Sembilan are both serving as menteri besar. - Mkini
