PETALING JAYA: Representatives from Cuepacs and the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) should be included in a panel set up to probe allegations that a senior civil servant had verbally abused an immigration officer, a union said.
The Immigration Services Union of Peninsular Malaysia (KPISM) said the panel needed representatives from the two bodies to ensure a transparent investigation, Berita Harian reported.
“We will accept any outcome of the investigation, as long as it is fair and transparent,” KPISM president Khairil Niza Khairuddin was quoted as saying.
Chief Secretary to the Government Zuki Ali announced the formation of the panel on Sunday. Headed by Attorney-General Idrus Harun, the panel includes Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission head Azam Baki.
Zuki said the panel would present its findings and recommendations to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for further consideration.
It was previously reported that the public service department (JPA) director-general Shafiq Abdullah had allegedly verbally abused an immigration officer, a claim JPA had described as baseless and malicious and aimed at tarnishing Shafiq’s image.
JPA also said that Shafiq had rightly reprimanded the immigration officer, James Lee, over non-compliance with procedures after he failed to check the director-general and his delegation’s travel documents and passports. - FMT
