PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has again rescheduled its decision on former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim’s bid to strike out his corruption and money laundering charges.

This was after lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad told the court the Baling MP was admitted to University Malaya Medical Centre this morning for gastric problems.

Judge Kamaludin Md Said, who is chairing a three-member panel, pointed out that this decision has been postponed many times.

“We are not disputing his health condition but you can’t abuse the court’s process,” he said.

The other judges sitting with Kamaludin are Abu Bakar Jais and Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali.

Amer said Azeez had no intention to abuse the court process nor the defence, adding that they would not be seeking a further adjournment.

He suggested that both the prosecution and defence come back on Sept 6 for the Court of Appeal’s ruling.

“We will undertake to supply his (Azeez’s) MC (medical certificate),” he said.

Kamaludin then told the prosecution and defence to come back on Sept 5.

“If there is no decision on his (Azeez’s) representation, we will stick to the plan on delivering our decision,” he told deputy public prosecutor Ku Hayati Ku Haron on Azeez’s representation.

Azeez was charged in 2019 with accepting bribes amounting to RM5.2 million in connection with road projects in Perak and Kedah.

He also faces 10 counts of money laundering involving a total of RM13.9 million, which he allegedly received from Menuju Asas Sdn Bhd.

The Umno Supreme Council member is seeking to nullify his corruption and money laundering charges, claiming that they were done in bad faith. - FMT
