Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to hold a special briefing with party leaders this Saturday.
According to party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, the special briefing would be held at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), at 2pm and would touch on “current affairs”.
“Standby, jemputan rasmi akan dibuat,” he said on Twitter. (Standby, the official invite will be sent shortly)
The Pontian MP also said that all Umno leaders attending the briefing must don the party’s official red attire, without divulging further details.
Malaysiakini had reached out to Ahmad on details of the briefing but the latter has yet to respond.
However, it is speculated that the special briefing would touch on former Umno president Najib Abdul Razak being sent to the Kajang prison to do time after being found guilty in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
Two days ago, tens of Umno division leaders had a closed-door meeting at the Umno headquarters. However, a substantial number of division heads skipped the meeting.
Even Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, an Umno vice-president, gave the meeting a miss. Later, several top party leaders met the former at his official residence.
Yesterday, the Federal Court, in a unanimous decision, affirmed the guilty verdict levelled against Najib by the High Court and which was also upheld by the Court of Appeal.
He is now serving his 12 years’ jail time and has to pay a RM210 million fine. - Mkini
