Five Malacca Harapan reps cross the floor to join unity govt

Malacca Pakatan Harapan today confirmed the formation of a unity government with BN at the state, in line with current political developments at the federal level.

This means that five Harapan state assemblypersons, who were previously in the opposition bloc together with two Perikatan Nasional reps, have now switched over to swell the government ranks.

State Harapan chief Adly Zahari said this came as a result of a meeting with Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali.

"This can be seen through the change in the position of assemblypersons in the assembly as well as the appointment of a new leader of the opposition. Indirectly, the spirit of cooperation of the unity government at the federal level was also brought to Malacca.

"This government is a unity government. I am confident that the intention is to ensure the government is stable and implement various programmes related to the people," Utusan Malaysia reported him as telling reporters in Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh today.

The Alor Gajah MP added that a very stable state government was successfully formed as there are now 26 out of 28 assemblypersons in the government block.

The state assembly has 28 seats with 21 held by BN, Harapan (five) and PN (two).

Apart from Adly who is also the Bukit Katil assemblyperson, the other four Harapan representatives are Leng Chau Yen (Bandar Hilir), Low Chee Leong (Kota Laksamana), Kerk Chee Yee (Ayer Keroh) and Allex Seah Shoo Chin (Kesidang)

Bemban assemblyperson Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub, who is also the state PN chairperson, is now the new opposition leader in the state legislative assembly. - Mkini
