Former Ketereh MP Annuar Musa has kickstarted a recruitment drive for a new group known as Muafakat Nasional, a day after his Umno membership was terminated.
Annuar (above) posted a QR code on his Facebook page last night which will bring up a registration website.
According to Muafakat Nasional's website, the group aims to organise activities to promote the Rukun Negara and Federal Constitution.
Among others, the group is also aimed at protecting the position of Malay rulers, special positions of the Malays and bumiputera, safeguarding interests of other ethnic groups, the Malay language and the interests of a plural society.
It plans to do so by organising several round table discussions and a "Muafakat Nasional tour" - a series of closed-door seminars - as well as a national-level Muafakat Nasional convention.
In a statement today, Muafakat Nasional secretary Mohd Irwan Rizal said membership is open to all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion.
However, minors’ participation would require parental permission.
Annuar's Muafakat Nasional is an association registered with the Registrar of Societies and not to be confused with the proposed electoral pact between Umno and PAS - signed in September 2019.
Two days ago, the Umno leadership terminated Annuar's membership without any reason given.
His removal from Umno was widely speculated to be caused by his association with a faction opposed to party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He had also been a key proponent of the Muafakat Nasional pact - not the organisation - with PAS when Zahid was no longer warm to the idea.
Annuar, a two-term Ketereh MP, was not fielded as a BN candidate for the Nov 19 elections. - Mkini
