There is a Malay proverb which says : "bagai melepaskan batok di tangga".
Maksud: Membuat sesuatu kerja tetapi tidak sampai selesai.
In English it means doing a job half heartedly. In the Americanism that I am familiar with they would say 'doing a half assed job'.
As the picture illustrates a batok is a water scoop that is rarely used anymore. It was found at the bottom of the stairs or tangga at the entrances to kampong houses alongside a large container of water. Before climbing up the stairs into the house people would scoop up some water to wash their feet of any mud or soil. The proper etiquette was after using the scoop it had to be placed back carefully on or by the water container so that the next person may also use it to wash their feet. But people who were careless, lazy, tidak apa or mischievous would just chuck the batok or scoop on the stairs which would make it difficult for the next person to use it. Doing a 'half assed job'.
Now here is some news:
- y'day, Saifuddin indicated govt would not be reviewing Sosma
- PKR sec-general defended Sosma
- Gobind urged Saifuddin to reconsider Sosma
- at odds with position taken by Pakatan Harapan.
- Sosma “problematic and needs to be dealt with”
- Anwar said in 2019 that parts of Sosma need to be amended
PH consistent in our call for change said Gobind
remove draconian aspects of Sosma
discussions must be held
in line with our push for reforms.
ask home minister to reconsider
- Section 4 Sosma permits 28 days detention without access to court
- Gobind said ought to allow detained person access to court
- PH voted against motion to extend Section 4(5) of Sosma in March
- referring to 5 year extension to Section 4(5) of Sosma
- enables police to detain terror suspect not exceeding 28 days
- motion retabled by Hamzah in July passed after bloc voting
- review Section 13 - it provides for continued detention pending trial
- Section 30 Sosma (remand accused who has been acquitted) should be reviewed
- accused would be held indefinite periods even after an acquittal
- Among Sosma provisions to be reviewed include
- interception of communications (Section 6)
- taking of evidence of witnesses (Section 14)
- and admissibility of documents and evidence (Sections 20, 22, 23, 24 and 25)
My Comments :
I hope Gobind is serious and not just making these statements for show. Tolong jangan melepaskan batok di tangga.
My question is what happened to reformasi?
The cat is dragging in all sorts of strange things everyday.
- Yesterday was the SOSMA.
- The other day was that rice monopoly - it remains intact.
- Today a very rich woodcutter has been appointed deputy minister of natural resources and the environment.
Is this all a deliberate joke on the voters? You voted for us and now we kick you in the behind?
More relevant for you - these are the failed Barisan Nasional policies. These are the policies from the days of Mahazalim and Mahafiraun. Have you forgotten?
The BN fellows got kicked out in 2018 and now in 2022 they won a measly 12% of the vote. Why? Because of these same failed policies.
So please explain how you, the Pakatan Harapan can be wildly successful and popular by maintaining and implementing the same failed policies that got the BN fellows kicked out?
Dont know if Einstein really said this but you get the idea.
What is the difference between the PH and the Barisan Nasional?
The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
