Gobind says he received cabinet post offer, but declined to focus on MP duty

 

Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo was offered a position in the cabinet but said he turned it down to focus on his role as an MP.

Responding to questions on his exclusion via a statement on Facebook today, Gobind confirmed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim did offer him a position.

"However, after considering the matter, I informed him that I am unable to do so and that I would focus on my role as an MP, and assist the government in all ways that I can, moving ahead.

"I wish to thank him for asking me to be part of his cabinet. I again express my full confidence in his leadership and believe that he will be able to successfully take Malaysia to greater heights," he said.

Gobind served as the communications and multimedia minister during the previous Pakatan Harapan administration in 2018.

When contacted, the DAP lawmaker shot down claims that his refusal (to join the cabinet) was linked to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi being appointed deputy prime minister.

When pressed on the matter, Gobind replied: "That is not correct, there are other reasons for which the decision was made. I will leave it at that." - Mkini
