PETALING JAYA: The independent police conduct commission must not include political appointees, says former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan.
According to Berita Harian, Musa said this would ensure that the commission maintained its independence when investigating cases involving police conduct.
He said those who had experience and knowledge serving in the police force should be appointed.
Yesterday, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) Bill 2020, which seeks to establish an independent oversight commission for police conduct, would come into force next June.
The bill was passed on July 26 with the aim of improving integrity and reducing misconduct among police officers, as well as increasing public confidence in the security forces. - FMT
