Loke: Prasarana, KTMB to provide weekly maintenance reports

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he would request Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) to provide weekly audits on the maintenance status of their facilities.

The audit reports would, among others, include their status of operations and number of passengers - including those using the My50 travel pass, he said.

“I understand that Prasarana has its own audit, with its own committee to observe the facilities.

“So, when I meet with Prasarana, I will be given these reports, meaning I know what has been reported by the media - how many lifts and escalators have broken down. All this information is available.

“I will request for them to give periodic reports every week so that we can observe and ensure that maintenance (of facilities) are improved,” he told reporters after officiating the Financial and Regional Development Trend event at the 12th Malaysia-China Entrepreneurs Conference in Kuala Lumpur.

Loke (above) added that he had asked Prasarana and KTMB to attend post-cabinet meetings conducted by the Transport Ministry, as they had not been included in meetings in the past two years.

Inculcate ‘maintenance culture’

It was recently reported that an escalator at the Dang Wangi LRT station has now been repaired - after years of not operating.

Loke lauded the repairs, however, he stressed that a “maintenance culture” needs to be cultivated to prevent facilities from only being fixed when there is attention brought to it by a minister or the media.

“We have to cultivate it as part of our jobs. We have to ensure that the maintenance of public transport facilities must be done all the time, not only when a party highlights the issue,” the DAP leader said. - Mkini
