The Selangor State Development Corporation(PKNS) has identified several strategic and suitable locations to be used as foreign worker hostel centres (PAPA) in Selangor.
State Local Government, Public Transport and New Villages Development committee chairperson Ng Sze Han said that for now, the state government through the Kajang Municipal Council has approved planning permission, infrastructure and building plans for the PAPA project located in the Kampung Baru Balakong industrial area, Cheras.
"In addition, preliminary work at the site has also been carried out such as cleaning and the construction of project signage," he said in reply to a question from Wong Siew Ki (Harapan-Balakong) who wanted to know the latest developments on the PAPA project, at the state legislative assembly sitting today.
Ng also stated that residential premises and housing estates in the state are not allowed to be used as dormitories for foreign workers.
"Residential areas are not allowed. We only allow certain commercial areas to be converted into foreign worker dormitories and certain sites that are suitable for the dormitories," he said.
He said this in response to a question from Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar (Harapan-Meru) who wanted to know whether residential premises and housing estates were allowed to be used as foreign workers' dormitories because the matter had happened in Meru.
