KUALA LUMPUR: The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) issued a Notice of Licence Cancellation Conformation (NPPL) with immediate effect on a Mamak food outlet which saw a rat munching away on a fried chicken stored in a food heater.

MPAJ chairman Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said seizure action against the outlet will also be conducted by the local authority if the restaurant continued to run its business without a licence despite the NPPL being issued.

Therefore, he said MPAJ will only consider new licence applications if all conditions, especially related to cleanliness, are fully complied with.

"The NPPL with immediate effect will be issued on food premises in accordance with the actions taken by the Health Ministry through the Selangor State Health Department, which issued a Notice of Closure Order on Dec 24 on the eatery.

"Cleanliness inspections of food premises in terms of food serving and preparation areas as well as pest control on the premises are also carried out regularly by MPAJ.

"MPAJ takes this issue seriously and action will be taken against any food outlet that takes hygiene aspects for granted," he said in a statement today.

Based on past inspection records, Fauzi said he found that the cleanliness rating of the premises involved was Grade B for June 2021, with the last check being conducted in January.

To ensure the level of cleanliness in food premises is always guaranteed, he said MPAJ constantly monitors hygiene control to ensure that the conditions and regulations set by the local authority are always adhered to.

"Until Nov 30, a total of 1,057 food premises were inspected and 259 compounds were issued under By-law (UKK) 9(f) MPAJ Food Introduction 2007 and UKK 19(1)(d) MPAJ Food Establishment 2007.

"Thus, the public can also report complaints regarding the cleanliness of the premises in the MAPJ area through http://aduan.mpaj.gov.my," he said. - NST
