Sabah's Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) has quit the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, its president Jeffrey Kitingan confirmed today.
Speaking to the press in Kota Kinabalu, Kitingan said an official announcement will be made soon.
"Yes (we have quit PN). Just wait for the announcement," he said, as reported by Astro Awani.
The decision to leave PN is believed to be in connection to the move by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), a Sabah-based coalition Star is a part of, to support the new federal government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Pakatan Harapan.
"Because if we go this way and you go the other way, it means we are no longer on the same page," Kitingan added.
The Star president reportedly spoke to reporters after an event in Lahad Datu today.
According to him, the decision had been discussed by Star’s political bureau and they expect to make the announcement soon.
GRS is made up of Sabah Bersatu, Star, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), and United Sabah National Organisation (Usno).
