PETALING JAYA : A swearing-in ceremony for senators is scheduled to take place at Parliament House tomorrow at 8.30am, the president of the Dewan Negara, Rais Yatim, said today.
He confirmed the time of the ceremony in a message to Astro Awani.
A parliamentary source was quoted as saying that Senate officials had been told this morning to prepare for the ceremony.
“If a senator is announced as a Cabinet minister, that person needs to be sworn in tomorrow morning. However, the swearing-in ceremony will only be held as soon as confirmation is made if there are senators appointed as Cabinet ministers after the announcement made by the prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, tonight,” said the source.
Anwar is expected to make the announcement shortly.
Earlier today, Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s name was trending on Twitter amid speculation that the former finance minister could be reappointed to the post.
He had contested the Kuala Selangor seat in the general election last month but was defeated by Dzulkefly Ahmad of Pakatan Harapan, who was elected to a third term.
Others speculated to be in the running were PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and former second finance minister Johari Ghani.
Tengku Zafrul was appointed to the post when Muhyiddin Yassin became prime minister in 2020 and was retained when Ismail Sabri Yaakob took over the government in August last year. - FMT
