Thanks for 'Milo tin' funds, PAS MP tells party members

At a recent event to recognise the efforts of election workers, PAS lawmaker Ahmad Amzad Hashim thanked those who contributed to the “Milo tin” which helped fund the activities and programmes during the 15th general election.

Referring to donations from PAS members, the Kuala Terengganu MP said all the activities and programmes were made possible because of the “Milo tin”.

“If asked where PAS obtained the funds for its activities and programmes, we are not embarrassed to say that it came from our members' 'Milo tin'.

“PAS money is from the pockets of our members,” he added during the event in Wakaf Beruas, according to Harakah.

Amzad (above, left) also described PAS' sterling performance in the polls as "a manifestation of the people’s desire for a government that is caring, clean and stable with Islam serving as its guide."

In GE15, the Islamist party, which is part of Perikatan Nasional, emerged as the biggest winner with more than 40 federal seats.

However, PN failed to form the government following a political deadlock that resulted from a hung Parliament.

Questions emerge over PN’s funds

PN’s election spending has also come under the microscope, with various quarters calling for an investigation into how the nascent coalition headed by Muhyiddin Yassin had access to such funds.

MACC is also investigating the former premier and his administration over the alleged misappropriation of public funds for tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who also heads the Finance Ministry, suggested that gambling revenue might have been used to fund campaign activities but did not provide evidence.

Although he did not mention the names of parties or politicians, it is believed that he was referring to PN.

Following this, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said PN would consider suing the prime minister if he fails to furnish evidence.

Meanwhile, Amzad credited his triumph in Kuala Terengganu to the sacrifice of all those who worked tirelessly on the ground and divine intervention.

“Without their motivation and support, coupled with their sweat and toil as well as Allah being with us, how could we have been capable of winning with a majority of 40,907 votes?” he added. - Mkini
