PETALING JAYA: Umno’s general assembly has been postponed to Jan 11-14, party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said tonight in a Twitter post.
The general assembly was originally scheduled for Dec 21-24. However, the dates coincide with the school holidays and many delegates would want to use the time to travel, Ahmad said.
He said an official notice would be issued shortly.
Umno’s party elections were supposed to be held in 2020 but were postponed because of movement restrictions and lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In July, the Registrar of Societies had approved Umno’s application to amend its constitution and postpone its party elections for up to six months after a general election, or up to 18 months from the end of its leadership’s term, whichever comes later.
Last month, Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii said the party would not hold elections during the coming general assembly but it would be held six months after the conclusion of the general election. - FMT
