PETALING JAYA: Former Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub will be reappointed as Felcra chairman.
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this was decided after taking into account the wishes of Felcra settlers, Berita Harian reported.
Zahid said although the Cabinet had decided to terminate the contracts of political appointees to government-linked companies (GLCs), he believed that Jazlan should continue in the position.
“I put my trust in Jazlan. As such, I hereby instruct the rural and regional development ministry secretary-general Ramlan Harun to issue a reappointment letter as soon as possible, subject to the approval of the minister.
“The (rural and regional development) minister has agreed (to the reappointment) as instructed by the deputy prime minister,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Zahid is both deputy prime minister, and rural and regional development minister.
Jazlan, who is Kelantan Umno chief, was first appointed Felcra chairman in October last year. He also served as rural and regional development deputy minister in the Najib Razak administration between 2015 and 2018.
On Thursday, the Chief Secretary to the Government, Zuki Ali, issued a circular to secretaries-general of each ministry saying the Cabinet had agreed to the immediate termination of the contracts of political appointees.
Those affected are in federal statutory bodies and government companies under the Minister of Finance Incorporated, and goverment-linked companies and investment companies. - FMT
