SHAH ALAM: Three men, including a mechanic, have been arrested by the police for blowing up two automated teller machines (ATMs) in Setia Alam last week.
The suspects, aged between 33 and 43, were caught in three locations in Kuang and Meru on Feb 28, according to Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan.
In the Feb 23 incident, the suspects got away with cash amounting to RM267,150 from one of the ATMs.
Hussein said the suspects washed the notes with household bleach after it got automatically sprayed with ink when the ATMs were blown up.
“They admitted to having committed the crime and were under the influence of drugs,” he told a press conference.
The suspects also admitted to being involved in two similar cases in December 2020 and February 2022, where ATMs belonging to the same bank were also blown up. Both cases took place in Meru.
“We found out that they targeted ATMs in this bank as it still uses an old type (of machine), the suspects knew where to drill and pump the machine with gas.
“The explosion was then triggered by a spark,” he said, adding that the trio have a record of numerous crimes and drug cases. - FMT
