After double snub, Mahathir's pro-Malay campaign moves online

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's "Malay People's Proclamation" campaign has moved online after venues for planned gatherings by the movement were cancelled twice.

In a statement today, the movement's secretariat said that the online campaign seeks to give awareness to the Malays about the movement's agenda for the race and the country.

"This campaign will go on indefinitely so that it reaches all Malays who love the country," the brief statement issued by the movement states.

Also contained in the statement is a QR code, which upon scanning, leads the respondents to a Google Docs Form that claims that the Malays have been marginalised in the country, and deprived of political power.

"The Malays can no longer decide their own fate now, and in the days to come.

"This is due to the negligence by Malay leaders, themselves," two of the points listed in the document declared.

It further called on the Malays to put aside their personal and political interests, for the sake of their race.

Following the cancellation of the planned gatherings, Mahathir called Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim an "oppressor" and he also accused the government of being behind the cancellations.

Mahathir, however, did not provide any proof to back his claims. - Mkini
