PETALING JAYA: Police have summoned a man who criticised the government in a speech outside the Kuala Lumpur court complex on Friday, when Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin was being charged with corruption.

Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai said a video clip had been posted on TikTok showing the man addressing Muhyiddin’s supporters while standing on the cargo bed of a white pickup truck.

Beh said the man had criticised the appointment of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as deputy prime minister and the lack of funds for opposition MPs. He had also claimed the government was not looking after the Malays or defending Islam.

“Preliminary investigations found that the individual’s speech could cause negative perceptions and lead to unease among the public. The police view his allegations seriously,” said Beh.

Further investigations are being held into offences of defamation, posting of online content that is “menacing or offensive in character with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person” and alleged failure to give notice before holding a public gathering.

Beh urged members of the public against spreading any statements that can cause fear or unease, to ensure harmony between the various communities.

He added that anyone with information on this case may contact the Sentul operations room at 03-4048222. - FMT
