KUALA LUMPUR: Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik will return to Malaysia soon, after completing several programmes in Oman.
His lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, in confirming the matter, said Zakir still had programmes to attend to in the country.
"He will return soon after completing all the programmes there," said Akberdin when contacted today.
Akberdin had previously said that Zakir is in a safe condition and is given good treatment while he is in Muscat.
He said the preacher had also sent his regards and said he is safe at a hotel.
"Zakir had also said reports saying that he has been detained are simply fabrication," said Akberdin.
He, however, could not provide any details about Zakir's return in order to ensure his safety.
It was previously reported that Zakir, who is wanted in India, arrived in Muscat to deliver religious talks.
Zakir, who now resides in Malaysia, is facing charges in India involving money laundering, terrorism and creating religious tension.
The Indian government had previously sent an application for Zakir's extradition in January 2018. - NST
