KUALA LUMPUR: Education minister Fadhlina Sidek has hit back at Parit Buntar MP Misbahul Munir Masduki who had told her to teach for a week to understand the problems faced by teachers.
Fadhlina said while she was never a school teacher, she has 10 years’ experience teaching a diploma course at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
“It’s not nice to say that about me (Parit Buntar). It’s true I’m not a (school) teacher, but I have 10 years’ experience teaching a diploma course on judicial administration and shariah law at UKM,” she said during her winding-up speech in the Dewan Rakyat.
Earlier, Misbahul from Perikatan Nasional told Fadhlina to try being a teacher for one week to experience the challenges that teachers faced.
Misbahul said as a result, many were forced to bring their work home.
“The education minister has no experience being a teacher, if she can go and teach for a week, it would be sufficient. Then she will know (what teachers go through).
“Go to the school and experience for yourself the challenges and the burden faced by teachers,” he said.
Fadhlina, meanwhile, told Misbahul to not question her inexperience as a teacher.
“I have taught courses on shariah law. So there is no need to question me or ask me to go and be a teacher,” she said. - FMT
