PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he is expected to be charged with seven offences which will be made separately tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur; and on Monday in Shah Alam.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president said the charges were fabricated based on his alleged involvement in the Jana Wibawa scandal.
"I was summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here because of these two issues," he told reporters here.
He described the accusations made against him and Bersatu over their involvement as purely "fitnah" (slander) which led the MACC to freeze the party's accounts.
"The programme was rolled out to help revive the economy of the people and rescue Bumiputera contractors from the adverse impact of Covid-19.
"Unfortunately, it became political ammo by some (to attack him and Bersatu) and accuse us of embezzling money.
"That is why the amount accused in relation to these accusations fluctuates frequently from RM600 billion to suddenly RM300 million," he said.
Muhyiddin maintained he did nothing wrong since he had no authority to approve the government's projects.
"The authority to provide approval is under the Finance Ministry," he said.
During his tenure as the prime minister, the Finance Ministry was helmed by the current International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz . - NST
