ALOR SETAR: Langkawi has been chosen again as the location for filming of the European version of the “Survivor” reality television series, after its successful venture there last season.
Local production company Landmark Films Sdn Bhd said it had also been chosen to handle the filming of the RM20 million show from early April to mid-May.
The company’s executive producer, Wan Suhaimi Mat, said filming would only involve remote natural locations far from the public. “This means the filming does not involve tourist hotspots such as Pulau Beras Basah and Pulau Dayang Bunting,” he said.
Langkawi was selected for its strategic location and its natural beauty, in addition to the logistical facilities available as well as cooperation from government agencies and departments.
Wan Suhaimi said some 300 local crew members will be involved. They would gain exposure to international standards of skills and work patterns in set carpentry and other areas.
“The Survivor series will be shown in European countries during prime time and provides big exposure for Malaysia, especially Langkawi,” he said.
Survivor is a global television franchise aired in many countries. In the US, it has been running for 44 seasons. The show features a group of contestants marooned in an isolated location who must provide for themselves. Contestants are eliminated through the game until only one remains, who is awarded the grand prize. - FMT
