The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court today released a man known as “Datuk Roy”, whose real name is Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, on MACC bail following the expiry of his three-day remand to facilitate an investigation into the Jana Wibawa programme.
However, the 54-year-old is set to be brought before the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court tomorrow to be further remanded as part of the anti-graft watchdog’s probe into the scheme.
His counsel Fahmi Abd Moin confirmed that Kuala Lumpur Magistrate Noorelyna Hanim Abd Halim this morning allowed the release when the MACC did not seek an extension to the remand.
“He (Datuk Roy) would be brought to Putrajaya (Magistrate’s Court) tomorrow for remand in relation to a new case,” the lawyer said.
Fahmi added that the remand tomorrow would be sought by the MACC to assist the investigation under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Two days ago, the Kuala Lumpur lower court issued a three-day remand until today against Datuk Roy (above) in order to facilitate the MACC investigation under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Three days ago, the New Straits Times reported that the man, who was wanted by the MACC to assist in investigations on the Jana Wibawa scheme, has surrendered himself.
The English daily reported MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki as saying that Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, known as “Datuk Roy”, turned himself in earlier.
Earlier, Bernama reported that the authorities were searching for the man and urged the public to come forward with information.
The report suggested that the individual was the "mastermind" of criminal activity.
The authorities have thus far charged three politicians - including former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan - in connection with the Jana Wibawa scheme.
The Jana Wibawa scheme was launched in 2020 as a means of helping bumiputera contractors who were suffering during the Covid-19 pandemic. - Mkini
