KUALA LUMPUR: The fire that razed almost 90% of the Ibrnu Sina Mosque in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa on Wednesday (March 22) is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.

In a Facebook post on its official page, the mosque said that a Fire and Rescue Department forensic report had stated that a lightning strike to the roof of the mosque had sparked the blaze that quickly spread.

It was reported by Majoriti on Thursday that the fire started at about 7pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations centre told Bernama that an emergency call had been received at 7.10pm and a team was deployed at 7.17pm.

"Three fire engines from the Setapak, Jalan Tun Razak and Hang Tuah fire stations with 21 fire fighters were deployed to the scene immediately.

"The fire destroyed 90% of the mosque, including the prayer hall,” he said.

The spokesman said the fire was brought under control at 7.27pm and fully doused by 9.36pm.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
