Malaysia reiterates its stand not to recognise the Tatmadaw regime

 

PARLIAMENT | The Foreign Affairs Ministry has reiterated Malaysia’s stand not to recognise the Myanmar armed forces, the Tatmadaw regime, and will work towards finding a comprehensive solution via the strengthening of the Asean Five Point Consensus (5PC).

Its minister, Zambry Abdul Kadir, said Malaysia and its Asean counterparts will continue to pressure the regime until a comprehensive solution can be achieved in Myanmar.

“The Asean 5PC is a process involving not only negotiations but of putting pressure, together with other Asean countries, on the regime as this issue, in the context of Myanmar, cannot be dealt with alone.

“We have held a series of meetings… we continue to exert pressure on them so that, finally, a comprehensive solution can be found in Myanmar,” Zambry (above) said during the winding-up session on the 2023 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

On the Palestine issue, he said Malaysia would continue to support the fight of the Palestinian people on all platforms, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), United Nations (UN), UN Human Rights Council and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

He said this is towards achieving absolute freedom from the illegal Israeli occupation and the formation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 border lines with Baitul Maqdis as the Palestinian capital.

“Malaysia will also continue to urge the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to put pressure on the Israeli regime to stop the policy of apartheid and terrorist attacks against the Palestinian people,” Zambry added.

The Dewan Rakyat then approved an allocation of RM809,613,800 for the ministry in the Budget 2023 at the committee level via a majority vote.
