KUALA LUMPUR: The communications and digital ministry has refuted an opposition MP’s claim that it blocked his live stream on video-sharing app TikTok yesterday.
Deputy communications and digital minister Teo Nie Ching was responding to Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) who claimed that his TikTok live stream during his debate at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday was temporarily blocked.
Shahidan alleged that it was blocked after the ministry held an engagement with TikTok.
“I would like to stress (in this Dewan) that the ministry has no idea why Yang Berhormat Arau’s TikTok live stream was interrupted when he was debating in the Dewan yesterday.
“I find his accusation that the live stream was blocked due to collaboration between the ministry and the social media platform to be irresponsible.
“If you are brave enough, please repeat this statement outside of the Dewan so that we can take legal action,” Teo said in her winding-up speech.
Teo also called out Shahidan for his unbecoming attitude in abusing the Dewan Rakyat proceedings.
She asked Shahidan, as a “free speech champion”, where he was when she was investigated by the police last year for a post she had shared in 2017.
“Why didn’t you defend me (back then)?” asked Teo. -FMT
