The Health Ministry will review claims that healthcare workers at government clinics were not fully paid for working extended hours.
Its minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today that the Public Service Department is handling the issue.
"We have taken note of the matter, and we have conducted discussions with the department, especially. We will look into this in detail and refine it," she said, according to CodeBlue.
Last Friday, the Health Ministry revealed that 52 public clinics nationwide will conduct extended hours up to 9.30pm on weekdays to reduce overcrowding at government hospitals.
Private practitioners and contract doctors have also been included in the scheme.
On Monday, pressure group Hartal Doktor Kontrak told Malaysiakini that the Health Ministry has not clarified if doctors would be compensated or how claims could be made.
“For how long will these measures be done? Have they done pilot studies elsewhere and what were the outcomes?
“What kind of cases will be dealt with in health clinics after office hours? Will education be given to the public on this beforehand?” said a spokesperson for the group.
