More pressure on PKR to face state polls as govt - Adam

Entering the upcoming six state polls as the federal government will pose new challenges for PKR with higher public expectations based on its performance, said PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim.

In his winding-up speech at the PKR special congress, he reminded delegates that voters will look beyond the party's candidate line-up to evaluate its performance in government.

"Today we are no longer the opposition, we are the government.

"We are being evaluated not only based on our candidates, our brand, and the faces we present as our party's icons.

"Most importantly is to prove how we as a government can safeguard the people's interests, national interest, and to ensure good governance," said the deputy youth and sports minister.

Adam is one of four PKR Youth candidates who won their seats in GE15. Two other candidates lost in their contest.

Of the remaining three who won, Adam noted they represented Pakatan Harapan's sole MP in Kedah and PKR's only MP in Sarawak.

"This is PKR Youth's records in our limitation.

"Now that the victory is in the past, what’s more important is to see how we can use the victory for good," said the Hang Tuah Jaya MP.

Better communication needed

In preparation for the state polls, Adam said communication issues within PKR continue to be an issue which must be addressed, aside from external messaging that relates to the people.

"Our challenge is to ensure how the government's plans are reaching the people.

"This requires a form of communication that must be better than what happened in the past," he added.

The special PKR congress at Stadium Melawati, Shah Alam, is being held as a prelude for the party's preparations to face six state polls due to be called by June. - Mkini
