Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has lauded the acceptance of BN assemblypersons as part of the Selangor government, saying it shows that the state Pakatan Harapan has adopted an open policy.
Zahid said that Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari’s statement on this matter was consistent with the formation of the unity government at the federal level.
“It is in line with our presence in the unity government, and this openness is most welcome as it will lead to a stronger government in Selangor.
“The formation of a Selangor government involving BN assemblypersons is a new reality,” he was reported as saying by Bernama today.
Zahid was commenting on Amirudin’s statement in the state assembly yesterday that BN-Umno assemblypersons are now part of the state government until its term ends in June.
The Umno president was speaking to reporters at the Bagan Datuk Umno divisional election today.
Zahid added that the unity government secretariat would hold its second meeting tomorrow, which Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will chair.
“We will make several decisions on steps to face the six state elections (due by mid-year) and map out strategies for conducting political operations over the medium and long terms for the general election,” he said.
On Feb 25, Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said three committees under the unity government secretariat would present reports on March 19 on first-stage discussions involving all parties in the government regarding preparations for the state polls. - Mkini
